Yellow, black, brown? Doesn’t matter — They all can be Best in Show.
At conformation events, a dog’s conformation is evaluated against the AKC Breed Standard in the eyes of the Judge. At a Labrador Specialty, it’s all Labradors, only Labradors, and some call this heaven on earth. You’ll find classes range from 6-month -old puppies, to Veterans, to Hunting Retriever Titled Dogs. You can check out the AKC Breed Standard and the LRC’s Illustrated Standard to understand the desired characteristics of our beloved Labrador Retriever.
Every year, our club gives its members and other Labrador lovers the chance to present their dogs in the show ring. Our shows, matches and conformation certificate events help our members and others highlight the results of their breeding programs and demonstrate the outstanding quality of their dogs. They’re also a wonderful place to learn about the Labrador Retriever breed and to meet responsible breeders who are glad to share their knowledge. Come join us at one of our events as an exhibitor, spectator, a steward, or perhaps a class sponsor!

Winter Conformation Match plus Obedience and Rally Show + Go
Usually held in mid-February, the licensed conformation B match is judged by knowledgeable breeders. The classes include sweepstakes, veterans classes as well as a full complement of regular classes. At the Winter Conformation Match the club provides ribbons and prizes for class wins. We also bring in lunch. Join us for a good time with other Labrador-loving friends.
June Labrador Specialty: All Labradors – All Day Long! A 2-Day Conformation Show, including Obedience and Rally
Every June, we eagerly look forward to our biggest event of the year — the Labrador Retriever Club of Greater Boston Annual Specialty.
The well-maintained grounds provide generous space for camping, parking in the shade, strolling among other Labrador enthusiasts, fabulous food at the Snack Shack. All of this is combined with multiple rings for Conformation, Obedience and Rally. Everything is at easy walking distances from one another. The show provides beautiful ribbons and prizes for exhibitors, unique vendor shopping, and the prospect of winning one of the many interesting and valuable raffle items that members generously donate each year.
Thursday night the Club hosts a New England Lobster Dinner, complete with a meet and greet including hors d’oeuvres that lead up to the dinner. Following the dinner there is an auction of artwork, specialty baskets, and the occasional Red Sox tickets!
Conformation Certificate and Supported Entries
In addition to our Specialty Show and events, we promote the excellence of the Labrador Retriever breed in other ways too.
We frequently offer Conformation Certificate evaluations in conjunction with the annual Working Certificate test or the Fun Day. The Conformation Certificate, as defined by our parent club, the Labrador Retriever Club, is a non-competitive conformation program open to all Labrador Retrievers, including spayed and neutered dogs, in which a knowledgeable judge will assess your dog for possessing the basic attributes and breed type of a Labrador Retriever.
We also support local AKC All Breed Clubs by doing Supported Entries for the Labrador Retriever. This lets us support other AKC clubs by providing prizes and trophies so that they can attract a strong entry of Labrador Retrievers to their show. This creates more opportunities for working together with other AKC All Breed Clubs in support of the Labrador Retriever.
